Patient Stewardship of Pension Matters

Suvarna Counsel was founded on the belief that pension disputes deserve the same careful attention given to any significant legal matter — regardless of size or complexity.

The Story of Suvarna Counsel

Suvarna Counsel opened its doors on Sukhumvit Road in 2013, founded by a small group of Thai lawyers who had spent the earlier part of their careers in larger commercial firms. What brought them together was a shared observation: pension matters — often affecting older clients, retired workers, and foreign retirees — were consistently underserved by the general legal market.

The practice was deliberately kept small. The founding partners wanted to remain hands-on with every file, to know each client's situation personally, and to move at the pace that complex administrative and court matters actually require — not the pace that billing targets might prefer.

Over the years, the practice has developed particular depth in Thai Social Security pension disputes, cross-border entitlement questions for foreign retirees, and Labour Court proceedings where pension awards have been challenged or withheld. Clients come from Bangkok, from provincial Thailand, and from abroad — each with a different story but often a similar frustration: a system that is difficult to navigate without guidance.

Our name, Suvarna, is drawn from the Sanskrit word for gold — chosen not for its associations with wealth, but for its older meaning of something carefully refined, tested, and found to be of enduring quality. That is how we approach legal work.

Our Mission

To provide considered, thorough legal representation for individuals navigating pension entitlement disputes in Thailand — with honesty about what the law permits, patience with complexity, and respect for each client's circumstances.

Our Values

  • Thoroughness over speed. We do not rush files. A pension dispute that has taken years to arise deserves careful analysis before any action is taken.
  • Transparency about prospects. We will tell you honestly what we think the likely range of outcomes is. We do not make claims about results.
  • Respect for the client's autonomy. Legal advice is information that allows a client to decide — not a directive. We present options clearly and let clients choose their path.
  • Consistent communication. Clients are updated in writing at every significant stage. Silence from a legal representative is one of the most common sources of client anxiety, and we take that seriously.

Professional Standards We Uphold

Our work is governed by Thai Bar Council rules and internal quality commitments that go beyond minimum obligations.

Thai Bar Council Membership

All attorneys at Suvarna Counsel hold current Thai Bar Council membership and adhere to the professional conduct rules of the Thai Lawyers Council Act.

Client Confidentiality

All client information is held in strict confidence under both legal professional privilege and the Personal Data Protection Act B.E. 2562 (PDPA). No client information is disclosed without written authorisation.

Written Engagement Letters

Every client engagement is formalised in a written letter confirming scope of work, fee structure, and reporting obligations before any work commences. No ambiguity about what is and is not covered.

Regular File Reviews

Active client files are reviewed on a fortnightly basis by a senior attorney. This ensures that no matter sits idle and that any procedural deadlines are identified well in advance.

Bilingual Documentation

All client-facing summaries, written opinions, and correspondence are prepared in English. Thai-language submissions to courts or administrative bodies are provided with English translations.

Honest Assessment Policy

We have a firm internal policy against overstating the prospects of any legal matter. Initial assessments include a frank discussion of the realistic range of outcomes and the limits of what legal action can achieve.

Pension Legal Services in Thailand — What Suvarna Counsel Offers

Thailand's pension framework operates through several channels — the Social Security Act B.E. 2533 and its amendments, the National Savings Fund, and various employer-based provident fund arrangements. For foreign retirees, these domestic provisions intersect with bilateral social security agreements and the regulations of their home country's pension authority. Navigating this landscape without legal guidance is possible, but disputes — particularly where contributions have been recorded incorrectly or pension awards have been reduced — are difficult to address without professional assistance.

Suvarna Counsel's practice is built around this intersection. We do not handle commercial disputes, criminal matters, or family law. Our work is narrow by design: pension entitlement reviews, Social Security Office disputes, and court proceedings before the Labour Court and administrative tribunals where pension matters are contested.

Our client base in Bangkok reflects the international character of the city. Long-term expatriates, foreign retirees choosing to remain in Thailand, Thai nationals with cross-border employment histories, and returned workers from overseas — each group encounters different aspects of the pension system, and each requires a different kind of legal analysis. That specificity is what Suvarna Counsel provides.
